Human Periodic Table from Thailand

Here at periodicvideos we always love a new periodic table!

And here's a nifty one from Thailand.

It came from Thorsten Wollmann.

Thorsten's message said: "I'm a science teacher of The British International School of Northern Thailand and would like to send you some pictures of our last project.

"During the preparation of the project all classes enjoyed watching the videos on your website and your work helped and inspired us to perform a human periodic table, which was then photographed from a hot air balloon last Saturday."

Periodic Table of Cupcakes

Last Friday (Dec 16) was Professor Martyn Poliakoff's birthday.

After last year's birthday gift (the world's smallest periodic table) we had our work cut out to match the spectacle.

Luckily a team of first-year chemistry students at The University of Nottingham came to the rescue with a spectacular periodic table of cupcakes.

In the interests of transparency, I should admit we presented The Professor with his cakes before his birhday.

That's because both he and I were due to be abroad on the day itself (The Professor in Ethiopia and me in La Palma).

However I've since learned The Professor's birthday was also celebrated in style in Africa.

A true Periodic Table fan!

Many of you will be aware we have been "collecting" photos of our viewers for a while now.

It's great to see who's watching.

These two photos, which just arrived this evening, definitely caught my eye.

I'll show them first, with explanation below.



The pics came from a chap in Amsterdam.

His email said:

"I like the updates on your videos, I watched them with great joy! All of your videos I've watched on my computer which is on my table, or shall I call it my periodic table?
I'm an element collector, so far i've got 46 (or 47, if you realize that my empty Nitrogen compartment is acually filled for 78% with Nitrogen) and all of my specimens are in my desk.

Young Chemists

The most recent addition to The Periodic Table of Videos is a discussion about childhood.

In particular, when our chemists were first introduced to the idea of chemistry.

There were some nice anecdotes.

But the team were also kind enough to contribute pictures of themselves as youngsters.

They were good sports to let me use them and I think it makes the video better.

(Though it took a while to get everyone's pictures sent in from parents across the UK!!!)
